David Stahl receives the “Forschungsförderpreis 2022” of the German Sarcoma Foundation

This research funding award supports his Liquid Biopsy project in the field of soft tissue sarcoma with a total of 16,000 euros.

Dr. David Stahl, Assistant Physician at the Clinic I for Internal Medicine and currently working as a Physician Scientist in the research group of EKF principal investigator Univ.-Prof. Dr. Roland Ullrich, Clinic I for Internal Medicine and CMMC, has been awarded the “Forschungsförderpreis 2022” of the German Sarcoma Foundation. This research funding award supports the translational project "Disease monitoring by liquid biopsies in genetically complex soft tissue sarcomas" in the field of sarcoma research with a total of 16,000 euros.

During his EKF fellowship, David Stahl focuses on immunotherapeutic approaches in soft tissue sarcomas and the detection of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in the blood plasma of patients suffering from this rare and heterogeneous group of tumors. In cooperation with EKF fellow Dr. Jan-Michel Heger and former EKF fellow Dr. Sven Borchmann, this Liquid Biopsy project aims to study the dynamics of ctDNA to better define risk groups of patients and assess the possibility of disease and treatment monitoring by ctDNA analysis. The researchers hope that the results can find clinical application in order to improve the diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of patients with soft tissue sarcomas.

The “Forschungsförderpreis” of the German Sarcoma Foundation was awarded for the first time this year to support projects in the field of sarcoma research.
